What is a Whole-food Plant-based diet?

A plant-based diet is a powerful way to achieve good health.


A plant-based diet consists of plant foods; fruit, vegetables, grains, and legumes. The diet should will avoid meat, dairy, and eggs. The whole foods plant based diet offers cholesterol free, fiber rich foods, full of vitamins and minerals, and low in saturated fat and calories.

This diet offers all protein and essential nutrients necessary to provide nourishment to your body. Adding vitamin B12 to your diet from a reliable source is very important. Suggested sources include B-12 fortified foods, are plant milks, breakfast cereals, and plant milks.

Research has shown, that a plant-based diet is less expensive than an omnivorous diet [5].


Heart Disease Eating a plant-based diet lowers your risk of heart disease when compared to people who consume animal products. Research has shown that eating more plants improves cholesterol levels, prevents even reverses heart disease and lowers blood pressure. [6]


Diabetes Type 2 diabetics have been successful at managing and reversing the progression of the disease, and it's effective at preventing and developing the illness. Eating a plant-based diets improves insulin function, lowers excess weight and increases the ability for beta-cells’ for blood sugar to be regulated. Overall changing a diet to predominantly plants helps reverse symptoms associated with type 2 diabetes. [7]


Weight Loss Weight loss is achievable without calorie counting or even exercise, by just replacing those high-fat foods and focusing on vegetables, whole grains, legumes and fruits.


Cancer Eating a plant-based diet, instead of consuming animal products and foods high in fat can lower your risk of developing certain types of cancer. [8]
